2020 Cruising Programme

Hi Everybody

Cruise Cancellations

In view of the current situation with Coronavirus we have sadly made the decision to cancel ALL the official CQBHA cruises.

But……we are hoping to help people get to Weymouth for the August Bank Holiday weekend.  Not as a CQBHA cruise but we have a booking there and we are advising the marina who would like to go to take up this booking – hoping the marina will still be able to offer us the chance of course.  If you still wish to go then contact us at cruisingsec@cqbha.org

We will still keep you advised through our Facebook Member’s Page and the Newsletter.

Unlike in previous years, we do not currently expect any of the cruises to be led by a specific cruise leader.  CQBHA will make the bookings at the marinas and we will provide comprehensive cruising notes and guidance so that the skippers can meet together on the night before the cruise – we suggest 2000 hrs in the amenities block or Yacht Club  – to agree the leaving time, whether the weather is suitable etc.

It may or may not be that a committee member from CQBHA will be attending a particular cruise.  However, from receipt of your acknowledgement of booking, and in particular when we have issued the cruising notes, members of the CQBHA team will be available to support and answer any questions that skippers may have – especially from those less experienced or more apprehensive skippers.  For example with additional navigational or pilotage tips.

In addition, as a result of our partnership with Powerboat Training UK based at Cobbs Quay we have arranged specific short course on pilotage and navigation to help you be confident on the cruise which are available for a small donation to the RNLI.

We are still looking for a person or people to help with cruise planning and to be the person handling the cruise booking.  So, if you can help, let me know?  chairman@cqbha.org .

Here are some brief details of the cruises we’re booking.

Easter ‘Mosey on up the Medina’  Shepherds Wharf 10th – 13th April 2020

Our first cruise of the season will see a return cruise to the Medina river just up from Cowes, giving us the perfect opportunity to explore this well-known yachting venue for the weekend going up on Friday before returning home on the Monday.

Friday to Monday – Port Hamble 8th – 10th May 2020 (May Bank Holiday – NB/ Bank Holiday is a Friday in 2020 not a Monday)

This is a chance to get to an MDL marina so no mooring fees!  Time to get the dinghy out and explore up river or simply kick back and chill.

This is a busy marina in the heart of the South Coast is a favourite for many. Great for a scenic trip up the river in the dinghy to Swanwick and beyond. The picturesque Hamble Village, with its inviting pubs and restaurants, is only a few minutes walk away.

Whitsun Holiday Cruise to Ocean Village 23 – 25th May (Whitsun Bank Holiday)

This one is planned as a Bank Holiday cruise with the plan to return to Cobbs on the Monday but a chance for those on the cruise to extend it to a whole week to explore east up the Solent and to the far corner of Portsmouth Harbour to Port Solent.  The two night stay at this well-appointed marina where you can eat, drink, shop or just unwind has been booked.  If people want to extend the time they will need to book the next venue (s) themselves.

Ocean Village is a possible departure point for an extended cruise to marinas in the Hamble, Lymington, Beaulieu River or on the Isle of Wight.

Plot a course to Portland Marina 1st August 2020

As one of the newest marinas on the south coast, we thought it would be a good idea to pay Portland another visit. Heading west gives us a chance to take in the spectacular scenery and iconic landmarks of the Jurassic Coast!

It is planned as a one night stay to give you a chance to explore Chesil Beach and the Isle of Portland.  You could opt to extend the stay of course.

This cruise is ideal for smaller boats or for those who wanted to ‘dip their toe in the water’ of cruising in company.

Whistle down to Weymouth 29th – 31st August 2020

Weymouth still proves to be the most popular of our cruise destinations, marking the end of our Association cruising season. This small and friendly marina is a summer holiday destination for many, with its shops, bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk.

With limited space here, booking early is essential as this is often the first cruise to get full.

Surely something for everybody.  Hopefully we have put together a great programme so get booking as soon as you can.  Remember, it’s first come first served!!!
